When you need a custom filter size
Most homes take a standard size you can find in our size finder. But plenty don’t. Custom cuts make sense when your return vent is an in-between dimension, when a previous owner built an oversized filter slot, when a wall-mounted or ceiling return uses a non-standard opening, or when a light-commercial air handler takes a size the big-box stores simply don’t carry. Rather than forcing an ill-fitting filter (which lets unfiltered air slip around the edges and shortens equipment life), a made-to-fit filter seals properly and does its job.
How custom pricing works — no surprises
We price a custom cut from the nearest standard size we already stock, rounded up so the filter is never smaller than what you need, at the MERV level you choose — then we add a flat made-to-order fee per filter. That’s the entire price you see above before you ever add to cart. No hidden setup charges, no per-cut surprises at checkout.
How to measure for a custom filter
Always order by the nominal size — the rounded number printed on the frame — not the exact tape measurement, which runs about half an inch smaller per side so the filter seats and seals. If you’re measuring an empty slot instead of an old filter, measure the opening itself and we’ll account for the seating gap. Length and width are interchangeable: a 17×21 and a 21×17 are the same filter; only depth has to match exactly.
